Our Young People team are qualified youth workers who purposefully engage our youth and offer them support around Bayside. We also organise programs, fun activities, and skill-development workshops that target the interests and needs of our youth.
Youth Advisory Group
The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) represents the young people of Bayside aged between 12 to 18. The Group plays a key role in advocating for young people’s needs and ensuring their voices are heard when local decisions are made.
The 15 representatives have the opportunity to actively participate in decisions that impact youth living in Bayside and empower them to contribute to meaningful outcomes within their community.
Over the past two years, the Youth Advisory Group has:
- Led and facilitated Youth Week events, creating opportunities for young people to engage and celebrate their community.
- Contributed to local projects, including consultations on recreational spaces and parks.
- Advocated on a state level, participating in government consultations on issues such as mental health, youth engagement, and social cohesion.
- Helped shape youth programs, including workshops in STEM, creative arts and including break out spaces for HSC students during outreach programs.
The Group meets at least four times a year at Arncliffe Youth Centre, with additional opportunities to engage in events.
Youth Plan 2025 – 2028
The Youth Plan was developed in consultation with young people and outlines key focus areas to support and meet the needs of young people in Bayside.
It aligns with strategic priorities at international, federal, state and local levels, which highlight the importance of education, mental health, employment pathways and social relationships. These drivers have also shaped the Plan’s direction and priorities.
The Youth Plan is accompanied by an action plan that guides the delivery of youth-focused initiatives and engagement over the next three years. Progress on actions will be reported twice per year through the Operations Plan reporting framework.
The 2025 Youth Plan can be found here.
