No foreshore New Year’s Eve fireworks in 2022
Our New Year’s Eve firework displays have been cancelled for the past four years due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, high winds in 2019, and a mostly disrupted event in 2018 due to wet weather, forcing 80% of patrons to leave early. The constant installation of fireworks that are unused is not a good use of ratepayer funds.
There will be no road closures or fireworks along the foreshore again this year.
However, Council will trial a safer pedestrian mall in Bay Street for three weekends in February 2023, starting Friday night and ending Sunday night over the following weekends:
- 10-12 February
- 17-19 February
- 24-26 February.
