Bayside Street Flag Program 2027

Friday 25 September 2026

Bayside Council plans to amend its 2027 Street Flag Program to include commemorative flags and banners for both Easter and Greek Independence Day, acknowledging the significance of these important occasions to the local community.

The amendment follows recognition that in 2027 there will be an overlap between Greek Independence Day and the Easter period. Greek Independence Day falls on Thursday 25 March 2027, Good Friday on 26 March 2027 and Easter Sunday on 28 March 2027.

To ensure both occasions are appropriately recognised, Council has adjusted the installation and removal schedule of commemorative flags and banners along Bay Street, Brighton-Le-Sands.

The revised arrangements will affect 10 flag poles located within the Bay Street precinct, a key community and commercial area that hosts a range of cultural celebrations and events throughout the year.

Council has planned the installation and removal dates to minimise operational costs and ensure the program remains within its approved budget.

The updated arrangements will allow residents, businesses and visitors to participate in and celebrate both occasions while maintaining an efficient and cost-effective approach to the annual Street Flag Program.

Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall said

“This amendment reflects Council's ongoing commitment to celebrating the cultural diversity of the local community while maintaining responsible management of public assets.

“Bayside is proud of its rich multicultural community and the important traditions that are celebrated across our city. The updated Street Flag Program ensures both Easter and Greek Independence Day are appropriately recognised during this unique calendar overlap.”
