Brighton-Le-Sands Masterplan Stage 1 Carparking

This report forms the first stage of a broader master planning process for the Brighton Le Sands centre.

What is it?

The car parking strategy identifies a vision for the centre, strategies and recommendations to address parking needs. It will inform the development of a Masterplan for the centre.

What are the issues?

The centre of Brighton Le Sands is impacted by parking congestion, particularly on weekends when visitor, worker and resident parking demand increases. The Strategy addresses the demand for parking, the existing issues impacting parking and the needs of the parking user groups.

What are the recommendations?

The parking strategy recommendations include:

  • Reduce parking congestion by providing more parking spaces, faster turnover rates, and the ability for residents to be exempt from parking time limited restrictions.
  • Increase the accessibility, amenity and function with the existing car parking stations and on-street parking.
  • Providing incentives to use public transport and improve the environment for walking and cycling.
  • Create an environment that is attractive and comfortable for locals, workers and visitors.

The second stage of the Brighton Le Sands Masterplan will be developed in 2018 and will look at retail, land use and urban design issues in the village centre. The issues and recommendations from this parking strategy will be included in the final Masterplan.
