Mascot Library Exhibition: Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home: Botany and Mascot 1920-1960, the latest exhibition at Mascot Library, shows how much our homes and domestic life changed during these decades.

“I hope all residents get the opportunity to visit the Mascot Library and see this exhibition for themselves,” Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.

“It’s a wonderful insight into what life was like for people in our community during these years.”

For many Australians, whether born here or immigrants, the ‘Great Australian Dream’ was, and still is, to own your own home.

Homes and gardens became expressions of identity, as their owners took great pride in decorating and planting their gardens.

The exhibition is a real trip down memory lane for many of us, particularly our seniors, and provides some great insights into life as it was for previous generations.

The exhibition has been adapted from Home in St George 1920-1960 that was on display at the Hurstville Museum & Gallery earlier this year.

The exhibition is open to the public and an official opening is planned for Saturday 28 October.
