Lunar New Year 2024

Bayside Council will usher in the Year of the Dragon with a series of free events and workshops in Council libraries focusing on Asian culture while town centres will light up with colourful lantern displays.

Council workers have been busy stringing lanterns and banners up in Laycock Walk Mascot. Banners have also been put up around Mascot Oval, and the park in Guess Avenue Wolli Creek.

Council is also inviting local businesses to send their Lunar New Year promotions to be published on online. This is an opportunity to promote your business to Bayside residents who are interested in local events.

Library staff have embraced Lunar New Year with colourful displays highlighting the popular Lunar New Year themed workshops running throughout February.

Library workshops for adults include, fabric painting, traditional Chinese calligraphy, Chinese fan painting and Nagomi pastel art.

Numerous free after-school craft classes for school children will also be held in Council libraries.

These workshops will be hosted by Council libraries from Monday 5 February and details can be found on Council’s website.

Mayor Saravinovski said:

“These workshops will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the rich history and culture of our Asian community who call Bayside home,” Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.
