Disposing Batteries Safely

Batteries are the leading cause of fires in garbage and recycling trucks, endangering the lives of our hardworking Waste Team and the community.

That is why Council is urging residents to avoid putting batteries in domestic waste and recycling bins.

Batteries can also be found in certain e-waste items, including computers or laptops, mobile phones, electronic gaming devices and toys, which can also pose a serious risk if placed in your kerbside bins or scheduled clean up service.

If you have any of these types of devices you can also bring them to Council’s community recycling drop off events where they will be recycled or disposed of safely.

Household batteries can also be taken to one of Council’s 22 annual community recycling drop off events for recovery.

Dates and location of these events can be found on the back of your waste calendar or in the Bayside Waste Services app.

Alternatively, you can take household batteries to an official battery drop off-point to be recycled.

Let's work together to keep our drivers and community safe.
