Access to Information

As a member of the public, you have the right access certain government information.

Principles of Public Information Access

Council is committed to the following principles regarding public access to documents and information:

  • Open and transparent government;
  • Consideration of the overriding public interest in relation to access requests;
  • Proactive disclosure and dissemination of information;
  • Respect for the rights and privacy of individuals; and
  • Respect for the commercial value of information and copyright provisions.

Open Access Information

Council will make information that is classified as ‘open access information’ publicly available unless there is an overriding public interest against the disclosure of the information. Open access information will generally be made available, free of charge, on Council’s website. Photocopying fees may apply. You can apply for open access information to be released by completing this form.

Proactive Release of Information

Council proactively releases information with a commitment to providing as much information to our community, for free or at the lowest cost possible.

Informal Release of Information

Council may release information held by it to a person in response to an informal request by the person (that is, a request that is not an access application) unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure of the information. Such requests may be subject to reasonable photocopying charges. Council is not required to consider an informal request and applicants may be required to submit a Formal Access Application.

Formal Access Application

The release of information that is not made available by either mandatory (open access), proactive or informal release may by made available by way of a Formal Access Application.

A standard application fee of $30 applies. Council may impose a processing charge of $30 per hour plus photocopying charges for dealing with your application. Applications will generally be dealt with within 20 working days. Applications requiring third party consultations may take an additional 14 days to finalise.
