Local families turned out to plant over 60 trees on Saturday at an annual Mother’s Day event which is helping to increase the biodiversity of Bayside.
Bayside Council's annual Trees for Mum event gives residents the opportunity to celebrate Mother's Day by planting a native tree.
It is a popular event that brings families together to celebrate their mothers while helping to increase Bayside’s green canopy.
This year 60 shade trees were planted in Cook Park, Kyeemagh, which will increase our biodiversity and provide habitat for native wildlife.
The native trees were supplied by the Bayside Garden Centre, a joint venture between Bayside Council and the Intellectual Disability Foundation of St. George.
The Bayside Garden Centre is open to the public and has approximately 80,000 plants available for sale ranging from annuals to advanced trees, and including a wide variety of species, such as Murraya, Buxus, Camellia, Gardenia, Grevillea and many more.
Mayor Edward McDougal said
“I would like to thank everyone who turned out to plant a native tree this Mother’s Day,” Mayor Edward McDougall said.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to honour our mothers while helping to ensure a greener future for Bayside.”
