Bayside Council’s first-ever environment fair, Project Planet, will take over the banks of the Cooks River at Cahill Park, Wolli Creek on Saturday, 18 October.
This free, family-friendly event celebrates sustainability and community, with a vibrant program of workshops, interactive stalls, and expert discussions that showcase Council’s commitment to building a greener, more resilient future.
The day will officially begin at 11am with a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and didgeridoo performance, setting the tone for a day that blends culture, community, and care for Country.
The program features:
- Cooking demonstration by Paul West (River Cottage Australia and Grow It Local)
- Performances by Eaton Gorge Theatre Company
- Native bee workshops and a migratory bird talk
- Furniture upcycling with The Bower, turning old pieces into vertical gardens
- Composting and worm farm workshops to show how food scraps can become garden gold
- Energy efficiency workshops to help households cut energy use and costs
Stallholders will include eco-focused businesses, environmental organisations, and community groups, each offering practical tips and ideas for everyday sustainable living. A range of delicious food from sustainable vendors committed to low-waste practices will also be available throughout the day.
Mayor of Bayside, Cr Edward McDougall, said Project Planet is an exciting new addition to the Council’s sustainability calendar.
“Project Planet is about empowering our community with practical tools and fresh ideas to live more sustainably.
It’s also a celebration of the passion and creativity that exists in Bayside when it comes to protecting the environment for future generations.
There’s something for everyone, from a screening of The Wild Robot to an immersive screening of Ocean with David Attenborough.
I encourage all residents to come along, whether they are already sustainability champions or just beginning their journey.
Project Planet has something for everyone. It’s a chance to discover simple, inspiring ways to make a difference while enjoying a fun day out with family and friends in one of Bayside’s most beautiful parks.”
