An investigation by Bayside Council could see publicly accessible rooftop recreational areas included in new commercial and industrial developments, particularly in high density areas like Mascot where residents enjoy limited green space.
The investigation comes after a notice of motion was carried at the May Council Meeting.
The investigation will look at expanding the space available for outdoor recreation by examining opportunities for the creative use of rooftops of industrial or commercial buildings to expand Bayside’s passive recreational space.
Council will also look at the possible use of rooftops for sports like netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and tennis.
Voluntary contributions by developers already help fund many major projects like the Mascot Oval upgrade and Botany Aquatic Centre redevelopments.
The investigation will look at expanding the use of Voluntary Agreements to include the provision of using rooftop spaces.
A report will be presented to Council with the findings of the investigation.
