Bayside’s premier historic house, Lydham Hall, could soon be getting an electrical upgrade subject to a financial assessment.
An upgrade to the electrical system will mean Lydham Hall can safely operate a commercial kitchen to support current public activities as well as a Writer in Residence program due to start later this year.
The Writer in Residence initiative at Lydham House utilises the upper floor of the building which is not accessible to visitors. Currently it is not possible to provide electricity to both floors at the same time.
While Lydham Hall is of state heritage significance, different parts of the site are graded differently.
The 1970s kitchen is documented as having little heritage value and work can be done to it without detracting from Lydham Halls heritage significance.
A report, including quotes, funding options and any possible heritage issues, will be prepared for a future Council Meeting for a decision.
Mayor Edward McDougall said
“With a new Writer in Residence initiative due to start later this year, this upgrade would help ensure the long-term future of Lydham Hall as a working heritage museum,” Mayor Edward McDougall said.
