Basketball Court for Sir Joseph Banks Park

Thursday 26 June 2025

Bayside Council is set to investigate the possibility of constructing a full-sized basketball court at the site of the existing 3-point court in Sir Joseph Banks Park, subject to a financial assessment.

Sir Joseph Banks Park is a vital recreational hub in Botany and community demand for sports facilities, particularly basketball, continues to grow with more residents seeking access facilities that promote physical activity and social connection.

An initial report detailing feasibility, cost estimates, funding options, and a proposed timeline will be presented at a future Council Meeting.

Community consultation will be undertaken prior to any decision to ensure the proposal aligns with local community needs and park usage.

Mayor Edward McDougall said

“A full-sized basketball court could help complement the park’s existing features, but we need to undertake a thorough investigation to ensure the new facility will enhance the park’s role as a vibrant open space for everyone to enjoy,” Mayor Edward McDougall said.
