Sand Nourishment
Lady Robinsons Beach Sand Nourishment Project
Important works are taking place on Crown Land along Lady Robinson Beach, with one project affecting Kyeemagh and Brighton Le Sands and a second concurrent project affecting Ramsgate and Dolls Point.
Storm events and tidal inundation is causing significant erosion of the area, which would impact the Grand Parade within five years at the current rate of erosion. The works are being undertaken to ensure the stability of the area and protect our foreshore from further erosion while a long-term management plan is being established.
The work involves the transportation of sand from Kyeemagh to Brighton Le Sands and Dolls Point to Ramsgate via trucks. The work will require the closure of small areas of beach, which will be gated to ensure the safety of the public. Council has planned the projects to have minimal impact on the community while this essential work is completed.
The work is being done on Crown Land with significant funding from the NSW Government.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dolls Point to Ramsgate
Why is this work happening?
The work is crucial to reducing the impact of beach erosion along Lady Robinsons Beach. Storm and tidal inundation have seen the sand washed away and it is accumulating in Dolls Point. By relocating the sand from Dolls Point to Ramsgate, Council can minimise the risk of further erosion that impacts the beach, land, and the Ramsgate Baths.
What work is happening?
20,000m3 of sand will be transferred from Dolls Point to the beach at Ramsgate to re-establish the 300m long and 30m wide beach. The sand will be moved by trucks on local and state roads.
How long will the work take?
The work is expected to take up to 16 weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions. Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday from 7am – 5pm. The work is expected to be completed in November.
Why does the area need to be closed?
In the interest of public safety, it is necessary to close a section of Lady Robinsons Beach during the works. A temporary fence will be constructed to close access to the beach and protect the safety of residents and visitors while the work is being completed.
What areas will the work affect?
The area between gates 14-19 and 25-28 will be closed during the works. This will affect swimmers at the Ramsgate Baths, part of the parking area off Sanoni Avenue, the walkway around the Sailing Club and the shared pedestrian/cycleway through Cook Park, Ramsgate.
Where can I swim during the closure?
Sandringham and Brighton Baths will remain open during the works. Currently Monterey Baths is closed due to recent storms in the Bay which have removed the pool netting. The Monterey Baths is expected to be reinstated by October.
Will this affect cyclists?
There will be a diversion for cyclists of approximately 100m during the works. Signage will be in place to guide cyclists during this period.
Is this a long-term solution?
This is a temporary strategy to minimise impact to the area for approximately five years to allow Council to establish a long-term management plan for the area.
Kyeemagh to Brighton Le Sands
Why is this work happening?
The work is crucial to reducing the impact of beach erosion at Brighton Le Sands. Storm and tidal inundation of the beach north of Groyne 5 below President Avenue is resulting in erosion of the Cook Park Foreshore. The erosion is now within 10m of The Grand Parade, which would result in impact on the State Road within five years at the current rate of erosion. The areas impacted are Crown Lands, under the care of Bayside Council.
What work is happening?
20,500m3 of sand will be transferred from Kyeemagh to the beach at Brighton Le Sands to re establish a beach 450m long and 25m wide including the restoration of a dune strip being 300m long by 10m wide between President Avenue and Teralba Road. The sand will be moved by trucks on the local and state roads.
How long will the work take?
The work is expected to take up to 16 weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions. Works will be undertaken Monday to Saturday from 7am – 5pm. The work is expected to be completed in November.
Why does the area need to be closed?
In the interest of public safety, it is necessary to close a small area in Kyeemagh and a section of Brighton Le Sands Beach near Teralba Road during the works. What areas will the work affect?
Areas along the beach between gates 56 and 60 at Kyeemagh and south of gate 43 Brighton Le Sands to President Avenue will be closed during the works. This will affect swimmers at the Kyeemagh Baths.
To ensure beach cleaning can continue during the works, a temporary accessway for the Beach Cleaning Machine will be set up through Cook Park, across from Henson Road in Brighton Le Sands. Once the works are completed, this temporary access will be closed, and the standard access point opposite Teralba Road will be reinstated.
Where can I swim during the closure?
Sandringham and Brighton Baths will remain open during the works. Currently Monterey Baths is closed due to recent storms in the Bay which have removed the pool netting. The Monterey Baths is expected to be reinstated by October.
