Mums and Daughters Self Protection Workshop

Bayside Council has partnered with KYUP! to present a free self-defence workshop for mums and daughters at the Arncliffe Youth Centre on Thursday 5 December.

The workshop is presented by martial artist Mel Thomas who shares safety tips and simple self-defence techniques any woman and girl can use, no matter their size or skill level.

This fun, safe, hands-on workshop focuses on setting boundaries and responding to conflict using relatable examples of real-life scenarios like public transport, public places, and parties.

Participants will learn how to replace fear with confidence, trust their instincts to make smart choices, use the power of their voice to defuse dangerous situations, get away from a situation that doesn’t feel right, fight back when needed, and break the cycle of violence.

KYUP! is a groundbreaking, evidence-based initiative that confronts the alarming rates of violence against women and children in Australia.

KYUP!, founded by mother and martial artist Mel Thomas, works in partnerships with key organizations such as the NSW State Government, PCYC, and NSW Police to break the cycle of family and domestic violence at a grassroots level.
