We are opposed to a proposal to build an incinerator facility at Matraville.
Locating an incinerator so close to populated areas is unneccesary and is incompatible with the health and well-being of nearby residents.

The NSW government is considering a proposal for a 'waste to energy' plant at Matraville.
If approved and built, the facility will burn processed waste to create steam and energy for the Opal paper mill.
We are opposed to this proposal, which will sit just across the Bayside border in the Randwick LGA.
Along with the Randwick City Council, we believe that placing an incinerator near a densely populated city is fundamentally incompatible with the health and well-being of nearby residents.
It will be built near populated areas, with more than half a million people living within a 10 km radius of the proposed site.
The paper mill currently uses natural gas to power the plant, which is typically regarded as a cleaner fuel source than burning coal or waste.
