Message from the Mayor

I would like to thank everyone who attended our candlelight vigil at the Family and Domestic Violence Reflection Garden in Mutch Park on Tuesday evening.

It was a very moving tribute to those who have been affected by family and domestic violence, and offered an opportunity to reflect on this tragic epidemic.

Council remains committed to providing support and implementing initiatives to help eradicate family and domestic violence in our community.

Tomorrow, Saturday 4 May, is the official opening of the Barton Park recreational hub.

While Council had to postpone some of the family friendly celebrations, I am looking forward to watching two amazing football matches.

The development of Barton Park has been a huge four-year journey, but I am proud of the work Council has done to transform this area into a place everyone in our community can enjoy.

I have no doubt the state-of-the-art sporting facilities at Barton Park will help our next generation of sporting heroes to flourish, while also meeting the needs of our whole community.

Walking and cycling paths lead to open space along the Rockdale Wetlands Corridor, and the recreational space can be used for family picnics, bird watching and environmental education.

Please check our Facebook page for any weather updates on the Barton Park opening event, and lets hope the rain holds off so we can enjoy watching some great football

Trees for Mum returns on Saturday 11 May when Council will host two tree planting events where residents can plant a tree for Mother’s Day.

Later this month we celebrate our seniors with a series of free high teas in the Botany and Rockdale Town Halls.

These high teas are very popular so please submit your registration before Tuesday 14 May.

If I can assist you with any Council matter, please contact my office at mayor@bayside.nsw.gov.au.
