We plan, design and build a range of infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

These are the projects currently underway:

Scarborough Park Courts

Status:

Under construction

Starts:

Winter 2023

Ends:

Autumn 2024

What's involved:
  • Demolition of existing courts and infrastructure

  • Construction of:

    • six new courts, including ground and drainage works

    • player and spectator shelters

    • compliant sports fencing

    • sporting infrastructure such as netting, posts and goals

    • new accessible connecting paths

Barton Park Recreational Precinct

Status:

Under construction

Starts:

October 2022

Ends:

Autumn 2024

What's involved:
  • site establishment including installation of ATF fencing for the site, tree protection fencing, silt and sediment control fencing and frog fencing, etc
  • removal of trees as per the design
  • pedestrian diversions inside the site
  • widening of entrance on Bestic Street
  • trench for temporary water supplies and builders supplies
  • trench and install PVC for sewer from sheds to existing tanks
  • relocate existing sheds from Barton Park
  • haul road construction
  • demolition of existing grandstand structure
  • remediation works as per RWP including the existing mounds.

The above works are weather dependant and can change accordingly. Demolition work may cause potential noise.

Funding

The Barton Park Recreational Precinct upgrade project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.

Botany Aquatic Centre

Status:

Preparing Development Approval (DA) application

Starts:

Winter 2025

Ends:

Summer 2026 / 27

What's involved:
  • Adventure waterplay and slides

  • 50 metre outdoor competition pool

  • Indoor learn to swim pool

  • 25 metre indoor lap pool

  • A new building including entrance, amenities, change rooms and kiosk

  • New grandstand

  • Landscaping works to the open green space

  • Gym space

Depena Reserve Cafe

Status:

Preparing a planning proposal

Starts:

TBC, subject to approval

Ends:

What's involved:
  • Concept design has been updated in response to feedback received from Councillors, community, and internal stakeholders

  • New design addresses functionality and operational space within the kitchen, ensuring it is practical and attractive for future tenants. It provides accessible connecting paths within the park and to the newly upgraded play space

  • We are preparing on a planning proposal for a cafe at Depena Reserve

  • Once the planning proposal is complete, the next stage is a Development Application (DA). As part of the DA process we will consult with neighbours

  • We will release a tender if approved

Patricia Carlon Reserve, Bexley

  • New playground equipment for young children

  • Playground undersurfacing

Noel Sieffert Reserve, Sans Souci

What's involved:
  • New playground equipment for upper primary ages

  • Playground undersurfacing and a shade sail

  • Paths, park furniture and landscaping.

Kingsgrove Ave Reserve Amenities

Status:

Preconstruction

Starts:

March 2024

What's involved:
  • Demolition of the existing canteen and storeroom building

  • Construction of a new sporting and public amenities building which includes:

    • Five public toilets, including two ambulant toilets

    • One accessible toilet with baby change facilities

    • External hand wash, bubbler and drinking water station

    • One referee / first aid room

    • One sports club meeting room

    • One canteen

    • One uniform / storage room

    • Water tank

    • Forecourt areas

Cook Park picnic shelters

Status:

Under construction

Starts:

October 2023

Ends:

Summer 2023/24 (weather permitting)

What's involved:

Bayside Council is constructing several new picnic shelters in Cook Park along the foreshore.

The project will begin with demolition of old shelters which are in poor condition and no longer functional, and will be replaced by bespoke Bayside picnic shelters with tables and seating settings.

Temporary fencing will restrict access to areas of the park, for your safety stay clear of construction fencing.

Cahill Park Oval, Wolli Creek - Irrigation

Status:

Construction - final stages

Starts:

Spring 2023

Ends:

Summer 2024 

What's involved:

Bayside Council is installing irrigation to Cahill Park Oval. The proposed works will improve the health of the field during dry summer periods, reducing future closures.

The construction of an irrigation system on the oval will include;

  • construction of a water tank and pump room
  • installation of pipes underground throughout the field

The remainder of the park and amenities will be available for public use, however access will be restricted to some areas with temporary construction fencing.

King St Mall, Rockdale – Her Way

Status:

Construction

Starts:

March 2024

Ends:

June 2024 

What's involved:

Update: 8 - 12 April

Monday to Tuesday - early morning removal of six x 4.5 meter poles followed by continued gateway works. 

Wednesday - old poles to be cleared from the site and new poles received by the construction team

Thursday to Friday – new poles installed and new street lights. Playground fixed and barricading removed.

Safer Cities

Safer Cities: Her Way is a partnership program between Transport for NSW and local councils to deliver intervention projects that help make public spaces like train stations feel safer and more welcoming.

Lighting

  • Temporary fencing around work zones and barriers for pedestrian diversion
  • Removal of existing and installation of new light poles and luminaires
  • Installation of catenary wiring and colour-changing festoon lighting, including to King Lane
  • Installation of strip lighting to new furniture
  • Upgrade of ‘gateway lights’

Street furniture

  • Removal of existing benches including small areas of paving 
  • Installation of new benches, stools and tables
  • Reinstatement of paving 
  • Installation of barriers at Princes Hwy and King Lane to restrict vehicle entry to west portion of mall (temporary 12-month trial)

Planting

  • Pruning of existing trees
  • Relocation of existing planter boxes
  • Removal of existing and installation of new plants, colourful panelling to boxes

Astridge Lane, Rockdale – Her Way

Lighting

  • Design and installation of colourful, vibrant artwork to the ground surface of the laneway.
  • Help the laneway feel brighter, more inviting and improve the sense of night-time safety.
  • May extend to the pedestrian crossing (TBC).
