Domestic and family violence

Bayside Council supports organisations from our two domestic violence interagencies, as well as the domestic violence campaign, ‘Help is Here’.

We provide grant funding opportunities to organisations that support women and children escape domestic violence, and partner with other organisations that work to reduce domestic violence.

Community workers domestic violence manual

The 'Domestic Violence: The basics for community workers' manual is a quick access guide for workers new to the area of domestic violence.

Download the manual here, Domestic Violence: The basics for community workers (1.72MB).

The manual was created in partnership with Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra Councils, and the Eastern Suburbs Domestic Violence Network, The Deli and Counterpart.

Domestic and Family Violence Action Plan

Bayside Council has committed to reducing domestic and family violence in our community. We have some of the highest rates of domestic violence in our region which is an unacceptable outcome for our community.

Our Domestic and Family Violence Action Plan is designed to underpin the Community Safety Strategy 2022-2026 and leverage local government’s unique position in having extensive reach, influence and access across our local community through the various services and facilities Council provides.

We hosted a virtual town hall panel discussion with local experts to understand how we can address this issue. You can watch the recording below.

16 Days of Activism

Bayside Council recognises and participates in the International 16 Days of Activism for the elimination of Violence against Women and Children Campaign, which takes place annually from 25 November to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

We proudly stand with organisations and groups around the world in calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. We work closely with community groups local businesses, NSW Police and the broader community to respond to and prevent domestic and family violence in our community.

We are joining the 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence campaign to raise awareness about the impact of domestic and family violence in our community.

We're Better Than That

We are thrilled to share the "We're Better Than That" video campaign, featuring messages from Colin Fassnidge, Luke Carroll, Bruce Hopkins, Rishi Acharya and Mike Whitney.

The campaign promotes respect and healthy relationships, and encourages men to be active bystanders when they witness behaviour that condones and contributes to violence in our communities.

Funded by the Central and Eastern Sydney Public Health Network, the campaign is a collaboration between the Eastern Suburbs Domestic Violence Committee, the Hope Believe Shine Foundation and Randwick, Waverley, Woollahra and Bayside Councils.
