New Mayor for Bayside Council

Thursday 1 October 2026

Councillor Christina Curry has been elected Mayor of Bayside Council following a vote by fellow Councillors at an Extraordinary Council Meeting held on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

An inaugural Bayside Councillor, Cr Curry has served on Council since its establishment in 2017 and will serve as Mayor for the next two years.

A Councillor representing Bayside Ward 1, Cr Curry made history as Bayside's first female Mayor when she was elected to the role in 2022. Prior to joining Bayside Council, she served on the former City of Botany Bay Council.

Dr Christina Curry was the winner of the Elected Representative Award in the Metro Division of the 2022 Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government.

Councillor Scott Morrissey was elected Deputy Mayor of Bayside Council until September 2027.

Cr Morrissey has served on Bayside Council since 2017 and previously held the position of Deputy Mayor in 2022.

Bayside Mayor Christina Curry said

“I am both humbled and grateful for the trust that has been placed in me once again," Mayor Christina Curry said.

“I'd like to acknowledge and thank Councillor Edward McDougall for his leadership as Mayor and Councillor Heidi Lee Douglas for her contribution and service as Deputy Mayor over the last two years.

“Being able to serve this community is something I never take for granted. I am excited to work alongside the new Deputy Mayor, Cr Scott Morrissey, my fellow Councillors, the General Manager and our dedicated Council staff as we continue to deliver on our Community Strategic Plan and the Delivery Program.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow Councillors to delivering great outcomes for our community.

“I am grateful for the confidence residents have placed in me. As Mayor my focus will continue to be on continual improvement on the presentation of our city, our parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities, town centres and public spaces. I will continue to ensure Council is listening to and delivering for our community.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and working hard over the next two years to deliver the many projects that will benefit Bayside now and well into the future.”
