Bayside Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and our natural environment has been recognised in the 2020 Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards.
Bayside Mayor Joe Awada and Deputy Mayor James Macdonald received the awards at a ceremony in the presence of her
Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley Governor of NSW.
“I am really proud of our sustainability achievements and these awards are a tribute to Council’s commitment to our natural environment,” Mayor Joe Awada said.

Bayside Council had three entries in the 2020 Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Awards:
- Overall Sustainable City Award (Finalist)
- Circular Economy Award (Highly Commended)
- Coastal and Waterways Protection Award (Highly Commended)
The Circular Economy Award recognises Council’s ongoing programs that successfully recycle and reuse waste products that would otherwise end up as landfill.
Council won this award in 2018 and 2019, and has continued to broaden its vision through community education programs and expanded services.
The Coastal and Waterways Protection Award is for programs and actions that create, restore and enhance natural waterways and beaches. In 2019 Bayside Council won this Award for its innovative Beach Litter Prevention Program.
Council continues to work with volunteers, businesses, other organisations to support and improve its ongoing Beach Litter Prevention Program.
The Overall Sustainable City Award is awarded to a council that has successfully undertaken projects or actions in a number of areas of environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
Bayside Council has been a finalist in the Overall Sustainable City Award for the third consecutive year.
