Bayside Council will apply for a $1M grant under the State Government’s Your High Street grant program to fund improvements to Gardeners Road, Rosebery.
“This shopping precinct has not been upgraded for some time and was already on our radar for a face lift,” Mayor Awada said.
“Detailed design plans have already been completed and funding for stage one included in the current budget. We are confident that we can meet all the terms and conditions of the grant with this project,” he said.
Run by NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment the Your High Street grant program is designed to enhance the amenity and functionality of high streets (retail shopping strips) throughout NSW.
Council identified 4 potential sites that would meet the grant criteria:
- Rosebery – Gardeners Road between Maloney Street to west of Sutherland Street
- Brighton Le-Sands – The Grand Parade between Bay Street and the Boulevarde
- Kogarah – Station Street
- Carlton – Carlton Parade
“Whilst each of these projects would benefit from an injection of funds, it was decided to go with Gardeners Road because of the tight deadline and most of the planning has already been done,” Mayor Joe Awada said.
The retail shopping strip along Gardeners Road stretches between Maloney Street, Rosebery and Botany Road, Mascot.
Applications close on 29 January.
