Message from the Mayor

It’s been my pleasure to visit several of our Bayside sporting clubs over the last fortnight.

These clubs play such an important role in providing our residents with organised community sporting activities for people of all ages and abilities.

We are so lucky to have so many amazing volunteers in Bayside who donate their time to make the clubs so successful.

A special shoutout to the Ilinden Rockdale Suns Football Club’s U12 girls team who recently won both the Proctor and Kanga Cup competitions.  It was lovely to have the team and coaches attend our Council meeting where they were specially acknowledged for their achievements.

I would also like to welcome our latest Bayside citizens who formally became proud Australians at our latest Citizenship Ceremonies earlier in the week.  I am delighted that they have chosen beautiful Bayside for their home and warmly welcome them to our community.

Council continues to work on improving our facilities across the Bayside area.  We are investing in renewing many of our play spaces across Bayside.

Depena Reserve at Dolls Point is the latest project to be completed and this work was assisted by a $300,000 grant from the NSW Government as part of its Everyone Can Play initiative.

Councillors and I will officially open this play space on Saturday 6 August at 1pm and I look forward to seeing many of our local residents there for a BBQ and face painting.

I’d also like to call out some of the progress we are making on elevating Climate and Environment on Council’s agenda.

A couple of examples of how we are doing this include participating in a trial along with other Sydney councils to use crumbed rubber from disposed tyres as a modified asphalt mix for road resurfacing.

Early results of this trial have been very positive with results showing the new asphalt is more resistant to cracking and appears to be more durable than traditional asphalt.

This is achieved with a number of environmental benefits including reducing road noise and landfill.

Bayside has also invested $9.65 million in an Environmental, Social and Governance Term Deposit.

This investment will fund sustainability-linked loans which will be offered and monitored by the Commonwealth Bank.

As always, please reach out to me if I can be of assistance.
