Bayside Council’s has voted to provide some financial relief to property owners at Mascot Towers given the unique circumstances surrounding the building.
“Council cannot waive rates, but we certainly will be making representations to the Premier,” Mayor Joe Awada said.
“We will also waive the interest on any unpaid rates and have agreed to waive all waste and stormwater charges.
“This means owners will not need to worry about making a rates payment and any future rates outstanding can be dealt with as part of the final outcome or settlement for the site.”
The owners at Mascot Towers have experienced a long period of uncertainty since the building was evacuated back on 14 June 2019.
There have been many media reports about investigations and engineering studies detailing how the site may or may not be able to be remediated or whether the site is best to be sold off and the owners cut their losses.
Council’s proposal will provide these owners some financially relief during these uncertain times.
