Your Councillors

Ward 5 Councillors are:

Heidi Lee Douglas

Email: HeidiLee.Douglas@bayside.nsw.gov.au

Phone: 0417 968 981

I am an active member of our local community and Founder of the Peaceful Bayside Action Group. This volunteer, grassroots action group has been working hard to create safer streets in Bayside. As your Councillor, I will continue to strive for safe, quieter streets; more inclusive, family-friendly neighbourhoods; better managed green spaces, and sustainability.

Professionally, I am an internationally award-winning Film Director, and experienced Communications and Campaigns Director, with a focus on shepherding positive social change.

I am the mother of two boys who attend school in Kyeemagh, where I have championed sustainability, inclusivity and road safety initiatives. Whilst on Council, I aim to work with locals to help roll out these initiatives to all schools and preschools.

As an active long-term member of The Bay Community Garden, I see the joy and health benefits a community garden brings to all ages, and I want to help establish more community gardens across Bayside.

I will work hard to protect our parks from overdevelopment, increase our tree coverage and biodiversity, advocate for climate solutions and more active travel routes. I am passionate about improving the health of our rivers and coastal areas, including safety for families and access to our beaches, and providing recreational facilities for paddlers and kayakers.

After discovering that we have a very high level of domestic violence in the area, I co-founded Bayside Women as a group to support women. On Council, I will be a strong voice for empowering local women.

I will endeavour to help Bayside businesses be more prosperous, through initiatives that support our creative community and reinvigorate our shopping areas, including sensible parking plans. Supporting more large-scale community and cultural events will also help our economy and bring together our neighbouring communities.

Ed McDougall

Email: ed.mcdougall@bayside.nsw.gov.au

Phone: 0419 413 132

Ed enjoys living in Brighton Le Sands, but thinks there’s so much that can be done to make our foreshore suburbs an even better place to live and work.

He will work towards re-establishing the Anti-Hoon Taskforce to bring State and Local representatives together with St George Police to push back against anti-social behaviour on our streets and along our beachfront and Bay Street.

As an advisor to State MP Steve Kamper, Ed has worked on a number of successful local campaigns, including the push to save historic Primrose House from demolition; the  redevelopment at Dolls Point and the successful effort to expand Kyeemagh Infants School from K-2 to a full K-6 public school, to relieve pressure on Brighton Le Sands Public School.

Ed is very concerned about the strain being placed on our services and infrastructure by the State Government’s high-rise ‘priority precincts’, and is committed to fighting against inappropriate developments like the 11 storey boarding house being proposed on Bay Street.

He believes Councillors should work tirelessly to improve our area and promises to be accessible, responsive and supportive to local residents.
