3 hour parking trial
We are trialling 3 hour parking along the Botany Bay foreshore between Kyeemach to Sans Souci, and in the car park at the end of Sanoni Avenue, Dolls Point.
The trial will run until 1 April 2021.
The 3 hour parking restrictions
Until 1 April 2021:
- A 3 hour time limit will apply to foreshore parking areas between Keemagh and Sans Souci, and in the car park at the end of Sanoni Avenue, Dolls Point
- you cannot park in marked bays for longer than 3 hours. If you stay longer than 3 hours you risk getting fined
- there are no permits or exceptions, except for people who are eligible for the Mobility Parking Scheme
- if you are eligible for the Mobility Parking Scheme, your usual concessions apply.
We are also trialling license plate recognition technology that will check for vehicles that stay longer than the time restrictions.
Why we are trialling 3 hour parking
Our aim is to provide more equitable access to the foreshore area, particularly during periods of high demand.
We chose the 3 hour limit as we think this will allow enough time to enjoy the foreshore facilities, while still encouraging turnover during the day.
If you need to spend more time in the area we encourage you to explore alternative forms of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport.
Reviewing the trial
After April 2021 we will review the trial to determine whether it has achieved our aim of providing more equitable access to the foreshore facilities. We will include comments from the community in our review.
During the trial we will also be observing the impact on nearby residential streets where the restrictions do not apply. We expect that higher turnover in the restricted area will ease the congestion in surrounding areas.
Once we have reviewed the trial we will decide whether to remove, extend or repeat the restrictions next summer.
