Sir Joseph Banks Park Footbridge Closure

A timber pedestrian bridge in Sir Joseph Banks Park, Botany has been identified as needing to be closed immediately for safety reasons.

The bridge is located adjacent to the small pond and it crosses the outlet channel. It appears that the bridge is part of the park embellishment works in the late 1980’s and both the bridge and the surrounding pond edge is now beyond repair.

The bridge is in a significant state of decay and is unsafe for continued use. There is an alternate path around the bridge location as it functions as a recreation link, not a thoroughfare.

The plan below shows the location of the bridge, the proposed sign locations to advise of the closure on approach, and the parallel alternative pathway.
