Foxes are regularly sighted across the Bayside area and have been identified as playing a major role in the decline of many native species. They have also been identified as impacting on threatened species across Australia, including the southern Sydney region and are a vector for the spread of high priority weeds.
Council, in collaboration with Councils in the southern Sydney region, is conducting a regional approach to fox management. As part of this initiative, between 18 and 24 May, Council will be engaging experienced and qualified contractors to undertake cage trapping of foxes and den fumigation in a number of natural areas across the City, including;
- Bardwell Valley;
- Barton Park;
- Leo Smith Reserve;
- Sir Joseph Banks Park and;
- Lady Robinson’s Beach.
Control will be undertaken in accordance with the NSW Department of Primary Industries Standard Operating Procedure FOX006 - Trapping of Foxes Using Cage Trapping.
If you walk your dog in any of the above reserves, please ensure your dog is kept on a lead when required and under your control and please keep to existing paths as much as possible during the trapping period.
