Purpose of the Role 

The Coordinator Financial Operations is responsible for providing leadership in the delivery of Council’s accounts payable, rates, revenue and debt recovery financial activities. Additionally, this role will play a key role in fostering a continuous improvement team environment that values people and diversity, with the capacity to develop plans, systems and projects to achieve team objectives.

The Coordinator Financial Operations will manage the treasury function including bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.

In this role you can expect to:

  • Manage Council's operational finance activities including, accounts payable, treasury and tax compliance, revenue generation and collection
  • Effective management of the treasury function including cash management, bank reconciliations, funds investment, management of Council’s debt, accounts receivable and accounts payable functions
  • Ensure that Council maintains investments in accordance with policy and strategy
  • Strategic Management of Investment Portfolio and reporting on performance
  • Coordination and management of the preparation and lodgement of all Taxation and Statistical returns to the Australian Tax Office, Office of Local Government, Australian Bureau of Statistics and other organisations
  • Partner with the Procurement Business Unit to manage the Procure to Pay process and to ensure valid, prompt and accurate payment to suppliers
  • Ensure appropriate controls and reconciliation occur over the payroll system
  • Assist in the development & preparation of the organisational budgets in line with Council’s Delivery and Operating Plans and Objectives
  • Liaise with banking and investment providers and develop ongoing ethical relationships to enable performance benchmarking and deliver value for money outcomes
  • Identify opportunities for change and managing change processes in an organisational context

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and /or equivalent experience
  • Post tertiary professional qualification (CPA, CA, or CIMA)
  • Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organisation
  • A background in local government, particularly relating to revenue generation and collection
